So now we are on Saturday. This day, Nina, her boyfriend (Kian), and I got to test drive a VW Polo GTI. This was such a cool experience. We all thought that we would be given a manual car, so I unfortunately didn't sign off for permission to drive the car. It turned out we were given an automatic one. The Autobahn is so different from the American highway. There isn't any speed limit on it in some areas. The maximum speed that we reached was 240 km/hr! That in miles is 149 mi/hr! That night, we went over to friends of Nina and her boyfriend's to have a barbecue. We had so much food! We all were so full after dinner was done. Sunday was more of a relaxing day. We slept in and then early afternoon went to the Mall of Berlin. Nina said that this mall opened in the fall, so it is pretty new. It was huge! There were so many stores and places to eat at. We each bought a few things and even bought matching lipstick in DM (pretty much the same thing as a CVS Pharmacy). After we were done shopping, we stopped at the Wonder Waffle in the mall for a snack (one that was very sweet) before dinner. The waffle that I had was one filled with peanut butter, apple sauce, strawberries, and bananas, and topped with powdered sugar and hazelnuts. It was so good! We had dinner at home and then decided to watch a movie together (10 Things I Hate About You…such a good movie if you haven't seen it before). So then that leaves today. My flight was unfortunately delayed by an hour and a half, but I made it safely back to Palma. Since arriving back home, I have unpacked my suitcase and have been working on homework. It's the final push for school work. I only have three more weeks left! Then comes work and beach, beach and work. :) Two and a half months are left in my grand adventure. I am literally down to less than 100 days until my return trip to Indiana. I guess the saying is true, time flies when you are having fun! So from my side of the world and until next time, hasta luego! | Dear readers, this weekend was by far one of the best I have had since I started my studying abroad adventure. In a sense, I got to really test my language skills. I was thinking in three different languages this past long weekend! To further explain things, this past Friday was a working holiday throughout Europe and I also didn't have any CIEE classes on Monday, so I decided to book a trip to go see my German Family in Frohnau. On Thursday (4/30/15) night, I hopped on a plane and was off to Berlin! Nina picked me up from the airport in this cute little Smart car. Last time I was in Germany, she was still taking her driver's ed classes. So it was very nice that she could drive this time around. We got back to her house late due to my flight arriving a little bit before 11 PM. Her mom asked me immediately if I still spoke German. I thought this was really funny. She also asked me if I remembered where my room was. So I took my belongings and myself to the room where I spent three weeks in oh so long ago (it will be four years this June!). Upon the desk were all sorts of goodies…chocolate bars, gummies, and crackers. (There was absolutely no way I could consume that much amount of candy, so I brought it home to share with my friends here in Spain.) Nina, her mom, and I talked for a bit before we all decided to head to bed. The next day, we all were off to eat Spargel (asparagus) in Beelitz. It's asparagus season in Germany. This my friends is not normal asparagus. This asparagus is white, not green. The reason for this is because in the fields, the asparagus is kept covered with tarps from the sun. So we went to a SpargelHof and had a really good lunch. Afterwards we bought an assortment of StreudelKuchen to bring home and also went on a walk through the SpargelFelder. We got home and then had our cake. Later that night, Nina, a friend of hers, and I saw Keine Ort Ohne Dich (The Longest Ride). I was very proud of myself at the end of the movie for having understood everything. I really haven't spoken much German in about a year. But I was told throughout the weekend that I was speaking just fine. Here I was worried that I was awful and had forgotten everything. |
