Dear readers, it has been absolutely way too long since I last posted. These last two weeks have been crazy busy with trying to finish school. These last weeks brought with them projects, exams, and a whole bunch of stress. Let me just say the school system here in Spain is very different from what I am used to at Purdue. (Very disorganized from what I am used to. But hey, it goes with the Spanish lifestyle and culture of taking everything easy and not worrying about things.) But, I survived! I am officially done with school and will start working thirty hours per week on Monday (6/1/15). Welcome to adulthood. I'll just give a quick run down of some of the fun activities that have occurred with my friend Emily, since I last blogged. The first fun activity that happened was going for an afternoon (5/20/15) to Valldemossa to visit the Chopin Museum and of course to eat the specialty pastry there, coca de patatas. (I've talked about this pastry in another one of my posts.) The Chopin Museum was really cool, tiny, but cool. I even bought a book called a Winter in Mallorca that is a retelling of the time when Chopin and Georg Sand were here. I have yet to start reading it, but am excited to peak into Mallorca' s past and read what it looked like as told by Georg Sand. Our next fun activity was going on Saturday (5/23/15) to the Palma Aquarium and buying a bottle of wine to share at a beach bar. I was thrilled to go to the aquarium. (I'm a sucker for aquariums and zoos. I know, I'm such a child.) After the aquarium, Emily and I had our lunch on the beach and walked around the Playa de Palma area (German city right there. Every where you go there are German signs, voices, and restaurants.) for a bit until we stumbled upon a cute little beach bar. So we purchased a bottle of wine and enjoyed our afternoon there. The next day (5/24/15) we had a pool party with the other girls from the CIEE business and tourism program and our new Spanish friends that we met in our international meeting and event planning class. We had a very fun afternoon eating, talking with one another and playing Heads Up on my phone. This past week, school was pretty much done so Emily and have been visiting cafes, walking around Palma (We pretty much walk the entire city every day. We are going to walk more on the side streets because there are always cute little stores and cafes that are hidden away.), going for runs, and planning on what we are going to do for our next weekends that we have here in Palma. The one fun activity that we did this past week worth mentioning was getting pedicures on Wednesday (5/27/15). It's always fun to treat yourself and have a nice girls day at the nail salon. :) Yesterday (5/29/15) we had our CIEE farewell lunch. We ate a place called Bon Lluc which is a vegetarian and vegan restaurant. The food was sooooo good and super filling. Emily and I went for one of our walks for a little while after lunch was finished and then went home to chill before we planned to go out with two of our other friends, Stephanie and Amber. (They both leave this upcoming week which is sad.) We went to a cute little Mexican restaurant last night and had margaritas. I had a passion fruit one which was so good! The people at the restaurant are super nice and we even got nachos on the house! | So that leaves us to today (5/30/15) and tomorrow. This morning Emily and I got breakfast together at a cafe called La Molienda. I have a feeling that we will be back there to try more of their different types of coffee and food. Afterwards we walked around and went to a little market that was in Plaza Mayor. Later on today I will be (hopefully, if the link works) watching my sister, Erin's graduation on my laptop. (Good luck my future little Boilermaker!) Tomorrow Amber, Stephanie, Emily, and I are planning on going to Mass in the Cathedral. I'm not Catholic, but it will be interesting to see a service inside of the Cathedral. Emily and I are then planning on going to a beach and soaking up the sun for a couple of hours in the afternoon. I have officially reached the under 50 day mark in my countdown for coming home. This next month and a half is going to fly by! The weeks will be long with work but the weekends will be filled with a ton of fun activities. The one thing that I am not looking forward to in this next month and a half is how hot that it is going to get. The sun here is super intense and even if you spend only an hour out in the streets, you can still get burnt. Air conditioning also will never have felt so good when I come home to the US. My open window is my friend in this hot weather. (Air conditioning does not exist in my home stay here.) But, if I managed my freshman year in Wiley dorm at Purdue with no air conditioning, then I can certainly manage it here. Sorry for the long post, but I just have so many things to tell! These adventures of mine are going to last a lifetime and I want to be able to remember every one of them. So from my side of the world and until next time, hasta luego! |
