Hola dear readers! So like I promised I will give an update on how San Juan went last Tuesday (6/23/15) night. The night was a ton of fun! It was so cool to see such a different cultural activity and to experience the Spanish culture in yet another way. There were demons scaring people, tons of fire, and a crowd full of many different types of people. All were gathered to experience this spectacle and some brave souls got right up and personal with the demons and fire and danced with them! Even though I was a fair distance away from all of the fire (I didn't want to get burned), a demon came right up next to my face when my back was turned and made kissy noises. Of course I was freaked out but didn't let it show so that the demon would leave. Haha. Afterwards, myself and two other girls went to a beach in Palma and stuck our feet into the water a little after midnight to make three wishes.
The next day, so Wednesday (6/24/15), I went on the last CIEE group excursion to Santanyi, Cala Figuera, and Cala Mondrago. My CIEE group was fortunate enough to be invited along with the new CIEE summer program for the day. Cala Mondrago was gorgeous! It was a nice change to have a beach day during the week instead of going to my internship. The week ended with a night out for sushi on Friday (6/26/15) with a couple of the other girls from my program and going out for a drink afterwards. The weekend was spent at Cala Contessa on Saturday (6/27/15) for a beach day and then on Saturday (6/28/15) going to Alcudia for a market and Port de Alcudia for a bit of another beach day.
This week has brought more hours at my internship and my upcoming trip to Barcelona with Emily for the July 4th weekend. We leave Friday night and won't get back until late Sunday night. So a nice weekend getaway before our return trip back to the states. My next blog will be talking all about Barcelona.
It is official, I have less than two weeks here in Mallorca. Thirteen more days are left in this paradise and with my time coming so close to an end, I have recently been reflecting on what I will miss most from my time here in Spain and Mallorca. Hence my title, Spain will always have a piece of my heart. I will definitely miss how accessible it is to get to beaches and to be able to go on day trips. You can't just walk outside in Carmel and go by foot wherever you want to go. Here I go outside and can walk to a cafe that is five minutes away. That brings up the topic of cafes. I will also miss how I can get really good coffee and pastries for a cheap price. All of the pastries have been so great and delicious! (I'm sure those of you that have been looking at my pictures on Facebook can agree.) The lifestyle here is also super relaxed. It has been so nice for me to have a change of pace in my life and to just slow down and not to have to worry about too many things. I will also miss all of the people that I have become close with at my internship and of course the Spanish friends that I have made during my time here. Overall, Mallorca has truly been a great experience for me and I have not regretted studying abroad once. I have grown so much as a person and honestly can't thank my friends and family enough that have supported me throughout my time in Spain. Five and a half months is such a long time, but the time has gone by so fast. Time sure does fly when you are having fun! So from my side of the world and until next time, hasta luego!
