Oh boy it's been a long time since I last blogged. Dear readers, since I have last blogged not much has changed, except for the fact that I will be home in just 21 days. 21 days…where has the time gone!?
I'm still working 30 hour weeks in both hotels and am soaking up the sun at the beaches and exploring the island of Mallorca on the weekends. During the week I take walks after work and continue to find cafes to get coffee at. I'm pretty sure I've walked just about all of the streets in Palma. Haha.
This last weekend (6/20/15 and 6/21/15), my friend Emily and I went to a beach on Saturday called Cala Vinyes. We've been to this one before. This little beach has everything…palm trees, cliff faces, tiki huts, a little cove, and of course a really gorgeous view. So that is where we spent our Saturday at. On Sunday (6/21/15) we went to Pollensa and Puerto de Pollensa. This little town is so cute! We went to the market there and explored for a bit in Pollensa before we took a quick fifteen minute bus ride to the port. The market was huge! I bought a really pretty fan that has actually become of some use when I am at home with there not being any air conditioning. The fan will probably become a decoration in my dorm next semester. The port was so much fun as well. We actually got some Ben and Jerry's ice cream there! It was like a little taste of home. Haha. The town of Pollensa is very much a British holiday destination. I heard so many British accents when we were there.
Tonight I actually have a fun activity planned with our CIEE group and one of the summer groups that is here. The event that takes place tonight is called La Noche de San Juan. This day is the eve of the saint's day and the summer solstice also occurs. Fire is a big symbol of this night because the time of 'out with the old and in with the new' is cleansed by using fire. Big celebrations are common with demons running around with smoke, sparks, and flames. Tonight should be very fun and memorable. I will definitely be writing about that in my next blog to let everyone know how it went.
So I think I have caught everyone up on what is going on here in Mallorca and with me. It is seriously crazy to think that I have been here for almost six months. I used to think doing a study abroad trip for three weeks was long, but now I think a three week trip is so short! I have really been able to immerse myself in the culture and now can speak Spanish pretty well. Granted I still speak in the present tense and the recent past, but I can get by a lot better than I could at the beginning of my trip. So from my side of the world and until next time, hasta luego!
