Okay, so I'm not currently in Barcelona, but this past weekend dear readers, my friend Emily and I took one last little trip before we leave Spain and head back to the US. (I officially have 6, that's right, 6 more full days here!) We went to Barcelona for a weekend getaway. We left Friday night (7/3/15) and landed in Barcelona in what it felt like was a matter of seconds. You are barely up in the air before you land! We then headed to our hostel, The Generator. This hostel was pretty cool…tons of young people were there from parts all over the world. We slept in a six person bedroom for the weekend. (That part was fine all up until that Sunday (7/5/15) morning…two of the girls were up at like 4 AM talking, showering, and packing to leave. So not cool.) Saturday (7/4/15) we pretty much saw almost all of Barcelona. So while all of you in the US were celebrating the fourth with parades, fireworks, and cook outs, we were enjoying Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, the market in Barcelona (Literally had so much produce and food! We ate our lunch there.), Casa Batlo, some shopping on Las Ramblas, a meal by the port with a great view of boats, and to end the night, the Magic Fountain Show. Sagrada Famila and Casa Batlo were probably my favorite sights of the day. Both tourist attractions are so different. So pretty much to sum the day up, we had very tired legs and feet but had the enjoyment of seeing a lot of Gaudi's works and eating some awesome food. The Magic Fountatin Show was also our replacement for fireworks. :) Sunday (7/5/15) was more of a relaxing day. We ate breakfast at a Starbuck's! (I know, so American!) Best bagel and coffee I have had in a while. That was actually the first bagel that I have had in five and a half months. | After we of course had to do some souvenir shopping. (Funny story, I was looking at this little mosaic bull figurine in one of the tourist shops and one of the Indian guys that was working in the shop noticed that I liked it. We were about to leave when he comes up and was like I give it to you for a good price. I originally told him no, but the guy kept bartering with me. I ended up getting the bull for two and a half euros cheaper than the original price. Before that though he was trying to get me to buy the bigger one. He was very adamant about it and was like are you sure you don't want this one, he's staring at you. I told him no but that I would purchase the smaller one. Haha. So I ended up with an extra tourist souvenir. Every time I'll look at the bull I'll remember my time in Barcelona.) We then headed to the gothic quarter to visit the cathedral there and to just take in the architecture. Some more shopping was done after lunch and then it was time to head to the airport to come back home to Palma. Overall, our little weekend trip was a relaxing way to end our five and a half months in Spain. It's crazy to think that this time next week I'll be towards the end of my long travel day. I have this last weekend to soak up the sun and two days next week to go anywhere else that I would like to before I am to leave. I am very excited to be home but sad that my study abroad experience will have ended. I have experienced so much in my time abroad and will definitely have many stories to tell. If anyone is interested in hearing from me personally about my experiences, I would love to talk when I am back stateside! So from my side of the world and until next time, hasta luego! |
